Friendship And Collage Friday- 6/21/13

Welcome to Friendship Friday! We’ve had a great week! I hope you did too!

Bethany has been very well behaved most of the week with the exception of refusing to get ready to go get a blood test on Thursday morning. Since we also had dentist appointments for all the other kids later that same afternoon in a different city 35 miles in the opposite direction, we decided not to push the issue with her. Good thing we don’t need an appointment for the lab. We can easily go any time!

We didn’t take Bethany with us to the dentist’s office, so we left her happily at home playing hide and seek with her beloved Mary. We promised to take her somewhere when we got home! Good thing we did leave her at home, because she never would have handled waiting around at the dentist from 1:00 to 3:30!

Rebekah had no cavities but her xrays revealed that she’s going to have trouble with her wisdom teeth! YAY!! She will need to have them extracted in about two years! Jeremiah had what may be a small cavity. He has to go back for an exam and xrays! Nate needs a filling and two teeth pulled! UGH!! He has a lot of sensory issues and tooth brushing has always been difficult for him.

After our fun trip to the dentist, we decided to take advantage of being “Bethanyless” and treat the kids to dinner and ice cream! We got a picnic dinner at Brooks House of BBQ! The meat eaters got ribs and chicken and the vegetarians ate cole slaw, fries, macaroni salad, and onion rings!! A well balanced dinner…NOT! The best part of this dinner was eating it outside on a beautiful day and being able to really enjoy ourselves without worrying about Bethany! After dinner we went grocery shopping and got ice cream! A good time was had by all. Even Nate enjoyed himself despite getting bad news from the dentist!!

After arriving back home from the our trip into town (23 miles NE from home), Malcolm and I took Bethany out for fries twelve miles away in the other direction (in the same town where she was supposed to get her blood test)! She was delighted when she realized that one of her old aides from her school days three years ago was there! Actually, I was surprised that Bethany even remembered her! She was there with her four year old son and his little friend! The kids were enchanted with Bethany and kept giving her high fives and hugs! She loved all the attention! The evening was a lot of fun and a successful, positive social experience for Bethany!

Bethany in her swim suit! Not sure how I feel about it! Jeremiah and Rebekah walking to the dentist! Aren't they cute? If you look carefully, you'll see that I snuck in a pic of Nate. He's in the bottom photo hiding in the left corner! He doesn't like to be photographed!

She didn’t join us because she is away busy being a camp counselor!

  1. Wow! It sounds like A LOT of driving that day, but worth it to get those appointments out of the way and enjoy a special afternoon with the kids. It’s those special, simple outings that make a HUGE difference in connecting as a family.

    • Any where we have to go involves a lot of driving around here, Jessy! We live just about a half hour or more from anywhere. That’s why now that most of the kids are grown up, we are thinking about moving closer to doctors, special needs services, stores, and entertainment. But I do love the country so much!

  2. I am SO glad you got to have an afternoon and evening away, Sylvia — to be free to fully focus on the rest of your family. I know Bethany takes 100% of your time and attention and I’m just happy you got a bit of a break, and it sounds like Bethany had a fun time with you all later that day as well. This was a great wrap-up to read! Thanks for linking!

  3. Wow! That’s a ton you have on your plate! Glad you had some good moments and views along the way and I LOVE the ring Rachel designed! Gorgeous!! Thanks for linking up at Thrilling Thursday!!

  4. I’ve recently had bad news at the dentist too. Thankfully it turned out better than I had expected, turning from a root canal to just a filling. Anyway, sometimes some normalcy is nice and needed, especially for the other kids I’m sure.

  5. It sounds like a great summer day, even if the dentist was involved. Dinner sounds like it was wonderful too.

I so often want to move to a more rural place, but then think about the driving for all the small things that I take for granted now.

I hope you had a good week.
