Friendship Friday 7/19/13

Once again, Welcome! Friendship Friday is a gathering place for bloggers to share what’s on their mind, what they’ve been going through, or how their week went. It’s not just for Homeschoolers! All are welcome!

We haven’t seen much of Rachel this summer as she is working at a nearby overnight Christian camp. She’s made some new friends and some weekends she stays at camp to participate in fun activities like chocolate parties, kayaking, and just hanging out with the other counselors, one of whom came all the way from Ireland!

Rebekah has been splitting her time up this summer between babysitting three cute kids who are proving to be quite a handful and spending time with The Boy. She took her GED test and now we must wait six to eight weeks to see if she passed it. She is worried that she may not have done well on the math section.

Jeremiah is still addicted to Minecraft. He has quite the following online, but few real life friends. There just aren’t any kids around here his age that we are aware of. We live in a very rural area. It doesn’t seem to bother him but it does bug me. I do however understand the value of online friendships too. I will be glad when he gets away from technology for a week when he goes to camp though.

Bethany has been spending her summer riding carousels and going to her little beach. I don’t mind at all because that’s the only way to get her (and consequently me) outside for more than a few minutes at a time. I love being outside so it’s really hard for me not to be most of the time! The past couple of weeks has found Bethany behaving a bit better. It may be because of the lack of corn syrup and the addition of Lavender essential oil, probiotics, coconut oil, and making sure that she has enough protein each day. I am still very worried about how she’ll act when it’s time for her MRI. If you are a praying person, I’d love prayers that she’ll cooperate with getting out of the house early (6:30 am) without eating first and cooperating with walking into the hospital. Also no violence after she wakes up please! I would so appreciate it!

  1. It does sound like a good summer for you all. I keep meaning to introduce James to Minecraft because I think he would like it, but perhaps I will wait until the summer (and lots of outside time) is over. As far as Bethany’s MRI goes, I will pray for you. Have you seen the book, “Activity Schedules for Children With Autism: Teaching Independent Behavior” by
Lynn E. McClannahan? It might help Bethany in general as it teaches them how to deal with changes in schedule.

    • Thanks Phyllis. I don’t really mind Jerry playing Minecraft. It’s not a bad game, but it is addictive! I’ll check out the book! Thanks for the tip.

    • Thanks Christy! We are planning to spend Sunday at Sylvan Beach. It’s also got a small amusement park. The beach and carousels are Bethany’s all time favorite places so I’m 99% certain that she’ll behave therefore allowing all of us to have a good time. Plus the weather is supposed to sunny and 72! Perfect beach weather!

    • Thanks for stopping by! I’m hoping the good behavior lasts whatever has caused it! Bethany’s MRI is scheduled for Aug 28. I’d love for you to join us on Friday!
