Thankful Thursday and Random Acts of Kindness!

I haven’t published a Thankful Thursday post on a regular basis in a long time. I find that my mood is less depressed and I have less pity parties when I am faithful in reminding myself of the good things that happen each day, even if they are just seemingly little insignificant things. So I will purpose to list at least seven things that I’ve been thankful for every Thursday…one for each day of the week- assuming that is, I have no emergency, illness or other such disaster that makes me forget!

I also just read about a 365 random acts of kindness challenge. I am going to jump on this bandwagon also and challenge myself with performing one random act of kindness each day. Since I don’t get out and about very much, most of my efforts will be targeted at my family members rather than strangers! But that’s okay!

I think they will appreciate my efforts. So often, in the intense hustle and bustle of life with a kid like Bethany, my other kids’ needs get overlooked. I forget to express how much I love and appreciate them. I’m also going to try to be nicer to my husband and appreciate what he does for us more!

Now hopefully challenging myself with these goals will not end up to be just another good intention!

Thankful items for:
January 1, 2014- I am thankful that my husband stayed calm when out shopping with Bethany. She is OCD about tracing EVERY. SINGLE. LETTER. on numerous candy wrappers all through out the store. It really drives him crazy to have to stand there for what seems like forever until she’s ready to move on!

January 2, 2014- I am thankful that even though it’s only 12 degrees outside and we are having a snow storm it is warm and cozy in my house!

I must confess that I haven’t performed an act of kindness yet.

Maybe I can count purposing to pay extra attention to Jeremiah and make him more comfortable while being sick with a fever and sore throat my first act of kindness for January first though.

You’ll have to check back next week to find out what my second through eighth act of kindness and my next thankful items will be!

  1. Thankfulness really does make a huge difference. Great post–especially the part about a less depressed mood when we remind ourselves of the good things that happen. I’m visiting from the Thursday Favorite things link up. Glad I found you.

  2. Thank you so much for linking up for Thankful Thursday today! I totally agree – I think my mood is different when I am in a mindset of thanksgiving. I’ve learned so much in the past few years, especially about this. Even when things aren’t seeming very positive or uplifting, there are still things worthy of thanksgiving. They may seem small and insignificant, and we may need to search really hard to come up with one single thing, but it’s been my experience that there’s always something to be thankful for. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I love the random acts of kindness. I love that you will doing it with family since you dont get out much. Great way to show how specail and loved they are. I also agree that when we focus on what we are thankful we do have less pity parties. Love your post!

  4. I agree that being intentional about noticing the blessings and thanking God for them makes such a huge difference in my mood and brain. I don’t always write them down because LIFE happens, but even simply thanking Him in my head matters and helps.

  5. It is so true that an attitude of gratitude helps to keep our joy alive. I try to live according to God’s instructions, one day at a time, and then I find myself more thankful. Thank you for participating in our blog hop…I hope you will continue to do this on Thursdays!

  6. I’m glad your house is cosy – sounds cold where you live! The story of your OCD shopping trip made me giggle a little. The things we incorporate into life as ‘normal’ with out kids hey??
