Autism Financial Aid Resources

In keeping with our February’s theme of providing disability resources, this week we are talking about resources for all things autism.

Today I have compiled a list of autism financial aid resources available online for children affected by autism and their families.

Far too many beneficial autism therapies, treatments, foods, dietary supplements, and equipment are not covered by insurances and are cost prohibitive for the financially burdened autism family.

It is my sincere hope that you’ll find in this list the kind of financial assistance you need to improve the quality of life for your loved one with autism.

  • Joey’s Fund Family Grant Program offers $2000-$3000 to be used for any one service or item that will directly improve the life of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • The Alex Foundation provides financial grants to help families acquire items they need for their children, which insurance does not cover.
  • Imagine a Way helps children with autism get the help they need as early as possible.
  • The National Autism Association’s Helping Hand Program offers financial assistance with obtaining bio-medical treatments for autism that are not covered by insurance.
  • Fund it Forward exists to ease the burdens of families with children with special needs by raising money for adaptive equipment not covered by health insurance.
  • For a list of organizations offering iPads to children with disabilities check out the post, 5 Ways to Get Free iPads for Your Special Needs Child at Wonder Baby.
  • Autism Now has a list of College Financial Aid Resources available online.
  • Aid for Autistic Children Foundation helps families affected by autism with debt relief and budgeting strategies. This organization believes that if financial disadvantage is taken away from families living with autism, many more autistic children will reach their potential due to the change in their environment.
  • I know many people are criticizing Autism Speaks, but I personally feel that there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of any resource that might benefit our children with autism and improve their quality of life.  I believe I would be remiss if I didn’t include every source (that I know of) of assistance available to families affected by autism, so go ahead and check out their financial aide grants and college scholarship funds available on their website.
  • And last but not least, try contacting your local autism support groups, local chapters of autism help organizations, local disability agencies, the Rotary Club, and even government agencies!
