My hip replacement surgery using Mako Robotic Arm has been scheduled for today.
So if you’re reading this post on the day that I’ve schedule it to be published, I’ve just had my left hip replaced!
I just cannot wait to finally have two good hips!
In fact, to say that I’m excited about it is a gross understatement.
I had the worst hip, my right one, replaced last February and I can honestly say that the experience has been life changing for me!
Just having one pain free, working hip has made such a huge impact on my life!
Before getting my first hip replaced, the pain had become unbearable.
Standing, sitting, lying down, moving… no matter what, I could not escape the excruciating pain.
I couldn’t lift my feet off the ground or even spread my legs apart more than a fraction of an inch, therefore, I really couldn’t even walk!
All I could do was shuffle along, sliding my feet forward as I went and out in public, I had to hold onto a shopping cart or I couldn’t move at all.
My ability to function and do normal activities was greatly impaired!
But with lots of hard work and determination at physical therapy and health club, these past few months, my range of motion, though not yet perfect, has improved tremendously!
PT and all that movement has actually helped my bad hip somewhat too!
I can even go for short walks outside again!
I know having two brand new hips won’t totally stop the aging process and I’ll still experience some old age aches and pains from time to time.
But, having two good hips will make me stronger and less fragile and allow me to take care of Bethany just a little bit longer.
When my husband and I were younger, we used to pack up all our kids in the car every fall and make the gorgeous drive over to Gilbert Lake, then hike all the way around it!
I’m looking forward to doing that again this year, minus all the kids of course!
They’re all grown up and living all around the world now!
And hopefully, Malcolm will be able to keep up with me!!
